On The Island, John Cruz

John Cruz won a Grammy for Slack Key in 2005, for His original song “Jo Bo’s Night” (which was featured on the compilation CD Slack Key Guitar Volume 2) which was also the first Grammy ever awarded for Hawaiian music. He is a true master. Although I think he may argue that there are others that have laid the ground work for slack key before him…humble this guy. the sign of a truly great person, as well as a great talent.

Island Style is far from a “hidden gem”, it has become an unofficial anthem of Hawaii through out the world. Jack Johnson has released it on several of his CD’s and plays it regularly at his concerts. He is one of many of the more “household” names that are great fans of John Cruz’s music…a simple search will bring up Jimmy Buffet, Ziggy Marley, Eddie Vedder, Alison Krauss, Kelly Slater, Train, among many others.
